Wednesday's Child Full of Hope!
Wednesday's Child is a televised feature that helps recruit adoptive families who can provide permanent and loving homes for children in Georgia’s foster care system. Wednesday evenings on FOX 5 News at 6, Alyse Eady introduces you to a special child who is looking for a forever home.
Nikki Poyer from Wednesday's Child contacted me recently. She said she was looking for a photography class for one of the kids she planned to feature on the Fox 5 segment. Nikki told me about a boy named Cash, a 15 year old, who wanted to learn photography so he could take pictures of his friends.
DONE! I was honored, excited, flattered, giddy to be asked to be a part of such an amazing experience!
My friend and fellow awesome teacher and owner of The Märchen Sagen Academy for Visual Storytellers Couleen Lagon happily agreed to let us shoot the segment at his place in downtown Decatur.
I decided that I really needed to make sure Cash had his own camera. I mean, what a tease to have one photo lesson and then leave with no camera! I found a really nice pre owned Canon PowerShot SX530 online that I decided had Cash's name all over it. It was hard not to tear up while giving him the camera!
Here's cash and his new to him toy!
After our lesson, Mr. Lagon showed Cash his AMAZING green screen studio. Side note: Uncle Al (that's what the kids call him) has one of the coolest after-school/summer camp programs I have ever seen in my 25 years of teaching. They do crazy cool stuff!
Here's Uncle Al showing Cash how green screen works.
The sky is the limit Cash, especially when you have gold bow tie and Chucks!
I took Cash on a photo walk around the Decatur square. I showed him the basic functions of his camera and how to start looking for art that exists all around us all the time.
One of the first shots Cash took was our reflection in a shop window.
We didn't have time to take a very long walk but this is what he got in just a few minutes of owning his own camera.
Nikki from Wednesday's Child and Cash's case worker. Two wonderful souls making the world a better place!
Cash, I say this to you my new friend, you are a bright and beautiful light! Shine on!
The segment will air for 3 weeks and soon (I will be sharing the link like crazy!) I know this will find Cash the forever home he truly deserves.
