One of the greatest joys I have had to date, teaching photography to kids, is the special needs class I was recently contracted to teach.
My students vary in ability and most have never taken a photograph before.
I use almost exclusively, point and shoot cameras and tablets with this class. Many of the students have motor skill issues and a hard time taking steady images. Their pictures tend towards blurry, cropped and have fingers in the frame. All of this is beautiful to me.
When I give them cameras, I am giving them the ability to communicate in a way they never have before. They take pictures of things they find mportant and love. My students get excited by just touching the button or screen to capture images. They love the sound of the shutter and the magic of the image instantly appearing.
